| Radiation Safety Training
In-class attendance of the course and baseline bioassay submission must be completed before the written examination can be taken. The course is intended for laboratory personnel who have never attended a formal course in radiation safety practices and/or those individuals utilizing radioisotopes for the first time. The RSTC is offered quarterly. Students must attend the in-class lecture session and the examination. The corresponding training manual can be viewed on-line at http://www.healthsafe.uab.edu/pages/radiationsafety/rad_training_manual.htm. The in-class lectures of the RSTC covers procedural requirements specific to UAB (i.e., bioassays, documentation and waste disposal, etc.). The written examination is usually given two weeks after the in-class session. A pocket scientific calculator will be needed for basic problem solving. Successful
completion of this basic course will not meet the necessary training
requirements to obtain UAB Radioactive Material Licensure at UAB. To obtain

4-4751 or 4-2487. NOTE: For those individuals who have had some experience in basic radiation safety principles, a challenge exam may be given in the RSP office.
