RS1001: Online Initial Radiation Safety Training

This course is intended for those laboratory workers who have not completed formal, basic training in radiation safety practices. Be advised that this course is administered in two parts.

Part one, RS1001 Online Initial Radiation Safety Training, of the course is online and consists of four modules with a comprehensive quiz at the end of each module:

  • Module 1:  Radiation Basics (Terminology), Quiz 1
  • Module 2:  Radiation Calculations, Quiz 2
  • Module 3:  Policies and Procedures (Specific to UAB and the State of Alabama), Quiz 3
  • Module 4:  Ordering, Receiving, Transferring, and Disposal of Radioactive Materials at UAB, Quiz 4

The student will not be allowed to proceed to successive modules until a score of at least 80% is made on the quiz of the initial or preceding module.

Upon successful completion of RS1001 Online Initial Radiation Safety Training, you may register for part two, the RS1002 Applied Radiation Safety Practicum.

RS1002 Applied Radiation Safety Practicum will be made available to the student only after successful completion of RS1001 Online Initial Radiation Safety Training.

A BlazerID or XIAS account is required to register for and take the course.

Registration:

Faculty & staff: Follow these registration instructions.

Other UAB personnel: Follow these registration instructions.

Non-UAB personnel: Follow these registration instructions.

A copy of the completed training certificate must be maintained on file and presented to the proper authorities upon request.

To obtain a certificate, wait 24 hours after you pass the quiz. Then you can:

  • Go to www.uab.edu.
  • At the top of the screen you will see a drop down box like this one: quicklinks drop down menu
  • Click on the down arrow beside QuickLinks and choose BlazerNET.
  • Log in.
  • Click on the tab at the top for Courses & Training.
  • On the right side of the screen you should see the last five regulatory training courses you completed. If you have completed more, there is a link to show you all of your regulatory training history.
  • Look for the Radiation Safety Training course completion.
  • There will be a printer icon beside the course completion. print icon Click on it to view your certificate.
  • Click on File on the menu at the top of your screen, and then click on Print to obtain a paper copy.
