Chemicals of Interest

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) identified a list of “chemicals of interestPDF file and issued rules and regulations requiring businesses, manufacturers and laboratories that possess chemicals of interest to identify and inventory them. All colleges and universities, including UAB, are required by law to comply with the new federal regulations. We are asking you to ensure that laboratories within your area comply with these regulations and deadlines.

All UAB laboratories will conduct an inventory to determine which of these chemicals of interest are on campus and the total amounts at UAB. By regulation, this inventory is mandatory and must be completed no later than February 29, 2008.

To help meet this deadline and make the inventory a little easier, OH&S has developed an online Chemical Inventory Program that meets the DHS requirements. It includes a printable list of the chemicals of interestPDF file that can be used as a worksheet, but the final inventory must be entered electronically. Please notify your investigators and lab managers that they must start their inventory immediately. The deadline is quickly approaching. For more information or assistance, call OH&S at 934-2487.
