BIO313: Bloodborne Pathogens 2013 Update To meet the requirements of providing annual training to those who work with and/or around bloodborne pathogens. To provide those working with and/or around bloodborne pathogens a review of the initial topics covered in teh initial training as well as additional training in the proper procedures of how to clean up a bloodborne pathogen spill. They should know at end of training: the BBP Standard, the key elements of the standard, OPIMs and exposure determination and the procedure for BBP spill clean up. CHEMICAL SAFETY CS055: Hazardous Waste Handling and Packing This is an online course and is required annually if you sign a manifest requesting hazardous waste pickup and disposal.CS245: Controlled Substances This is an online course and is required for anyone to receive authorization to purchase, possess, or use controlled substances in research, teaching, and/or veterinary care at UAB.HS200: Hazard Communication This is online course is required for all non-lab personnel and recommended for everyone. It is designed to teach employees how to recognize hazardous materials in the workplace and where to get information about them, how to read and properly label hazardous materials and what to do in case of emergencies involving hazardous materials.HS239: Nanotechnology Awareness This course is required for all personnel working in laboratories engaging in research that involves the manipulations of engineered (not naturally occurring) nanomaterials. GENERAL SAFETY DDC4: Defensive Driving Training This classroom course is required once every three years if you drive a UAB vehicle (exception - UAB Police) but is open to all interested. GS400: Building Life Safety This training is intended for building administrators and/or department heads, or their designees, who have responsibility for maintaining a safe work environment. It is designed to help them recognize and comply with Life Safety Code requirements in the operation of their buildings/departments.HS001: Golf Cart/Utility Cart Safety Training Ensure all operating golf/utility carts are trained in the safe, courteous use of the carts. Understand the legal operation, pedestrian issues, parking restrictions. There is a policy.NSC15: 15-Passenger Van Safety This classroom course is required if you drive a UAB 15-passenger van but is open to all interested. Registration is available via the web, or by calling OH&S at 934-2487. RADIATION SAFETY RS1001: Online Initial Radiation Safety Training This course is required if you work with radioisotopes. The course consists of online components and a hands-on workshop. The online part must be successfully completed before you can register for the workshop.RSR2001: Radiation Safety Refresher Course This online course is required once every five (5) years for those who work with radioisotopes. RESEARCH SAFETY BIO200: Shipping with Dry Ice Any UAB employee who chooses to ship a package using dry ice must be trained to do so every two (2) years or if regulations change according to both international and federal requirements.BIO201: Shipping Biological Substances, Category B Any UAB employee who handles or offers for transport a Biological Substance, Category B substance must complete training every two (2) years or if regulations change. This is a Federal requirement per the Hazardous Materials Regulation.BIO202: Shipping Infectious Substances, Category A Any UAB employee who handles, or offers for transport an Infectious Substance, Category A substance must complete training every two (2) years or if regulations change. This is a Federal requirement per the Hazardous Materials Regulation.BIO300: Bloodborne Pathogens This online course is required for all employees who would come in contact with human blood, body fluids and other potentially infectious material in the work environment. The course discusses regulatory aspects and definitions, precautions, spill clean-up, and medical considerations. NOTE: The Bloodborne Pathogens training on this site is for staff and faculty only. If you are a School of Nursing student, please contact the School of Nursing to get the correct training location.BIO301L: Medical Waste Management For Labs This online course is required if you generate or handle medical waste in/from research laboratories at UAB. Laboratory medical/infectious waste handling techniques are discussed including proper waste disposal, treatment, proper precautions, and spill clean-up. This training must be taken every three (3 ) years to maintain compliance with Department of Transportation regulations. BIO303: Basic Biosafety Training This online course is required if you work in a laboratory that uses BSL1 or BSL2 containment, practices or procedures.BIO304: Biosafety Cabinets and Fume Hoods When working with hazardous materials, there are times you may need to work inside some type of ventilation hood or cabinet, but do you know which one? This course helps users understand the difference between the types of ventilation equipment, their uses, restrictions, protections, as well as how to protect the health and safety of the user. Strongly recommended for those who use a biosafety cabinet, fume hood, or clean air station. CS101: Chemical Safety Training This online course is required for all personnel working in laboratories. Annual repeat as a refresher is recommended.LSW2001: Laboratory Safety Workshop This training opportunity is designed to offer principal investigators, laboratory managers, supervisors and science educators an in-depth review of laboratory safety practices, UAB safety-related policies and procedures, regulatory compliance, as well as legal and liability issues. Click here for more information.OHS100: Personal Protective Equipment This online course is strongly recommended for anyone working with or around hazardous materials or objects. It is designed to teach employees how to protect themselves when working with or around hazardous materials, or objects, in the workplace by wearing or using the right personal protective equipment needed for the job. The course also covers what you should and shouldn't wear to work - no shorts, open-toed or heeled shoes, etc.
